Tammy has more than 14 years of experience as a music lecturer at both university and school level, teaching voice, saxophone and piano, as well as various ensemble groups, most recently in contemporary commercial music (CCM). Her PhD thesis, entitled Contemporary commercial music in higher music education: A teaching-learning theory based on an instrumental case study, explored how international institutions teach and assess CCM and culminated in the development of a bespoke CCM Teaching-Learning Model. Tammy’s undergraduate studies included performance in voice, saxophone and piano.

Before relocating to Australia in March 2024, Tammy was a lecturer in music for over 13 years at the North-West University School of Music & Conservatory (NWU) in South Africa, where she was employed to establish and grow a contemporary commercial music (CCM) program, as the NWU had only offered a classical music curriculum at the time. Over a period of 13+ years, she used her leadership and organisational skills to establish and grow the CCM program to the point where, in 2025, CCM was listed as a voice major under two new full-time CCM faculty members, thus allowing the NWU to promote itself as “providing relevant and comprehensive education that prepares students for diverse career paths.” Currently, Tammy is a Professor of Practice at the NWU School of Music and Conservatory. She has also guest lectured at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.

Outside the music education sphere, Tammy has extensively performed on stage, playing leading roles in various musicals and cabarets. She has also been a member and vocalist in bands and music groups of a wide range of genres, which included performances at various arts festivals.
